Extreme-UV photons from AUDFs01:
India’s first multi-wavelength satellite, which has five unique X-ray and ultraviolet telescopes working in tandem, AstroSat, has detected extreme-UV light from a galaxy, called AUDFs01, 9.3 billion light-years away from Earth. The discovery was made by an international team of astronomers led by Dr. Kanak Saha, at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune and reported in Nature Astronomy on 24 August 2020. “The excellent spatial resolution, and high sensitivity, a tribute to the hard work of UVIT core team over a decade, were key to the detection of this very weak source”, said Prof. Tandon who was a part of the discovery. The first paper from AUDF in press:
Extended far-ultraviolet emission from distant dwarf galaxies
Second paper from AUDF published in Nature on 20 July 2022 is in press.
